Procedure Objective:	Slim and recontour the face by removing prominent fat in cheeks. Procedure will provide a more sleek appearance and may make the cheek bones more visible as well as elongate a very round face. Dr. Ortega may choose to remove the Buccal Fat Pad in conjunction with delicate liposuction around the area of the jawline/neck. The ideal candidate for this procedure is someone with a very round/”pudgy” face. This procedure can also be performed with other restorative operations. Ask your Doctor what your options are.
Length of Procedure:	1 to 2 hours. (Dependant on what other secondary procedures, if any)
Type of Anesthesia:	Local with sedation, or general.
In/Outpatient Basis:	Usually outpatient.
Possible Side Effects:	Temporary discomfort, swelling, bruising, numbness and/or stiffness. In jaw surgery, inability to open mouth fully for several weeks.
Possible Risks:	Transient excess tightening and hardening of scar tissue around the affected area, asymmetry, infection.
Approximate Recovery Period:	Back to work: about 1 week. Normal appearance: 2 to 4 weeks. Activity that could jar or bump face: 6 weeks or more.
Duration of Results:	Permanent.
